Glymur Waterfall Hike
We offer personal guidance to Glymur waterfall with local people from the area, so you will experience so much more than just the beautiful hike to Icelands highest waterfall. Glymur, with a cascade of 196 m. is situated at the rear end of Hvalfjordur, in a beautiful valley surrounded with volcanoes and forested area. The river runs from Hvalvatn lake and after a short distance the water falls down alongside the volcano Hvalfell into a steep canyon with green moss and arctic fulmar and other birds.
We pick you up at your accommodation in Reykjavík (or surrounding area) and bring you towards Hvalfjordur. On our way we´ll inform you about the spectacular landscape as well as Hvalfjordur´s history throughout times. We will stop 1-2 times on the way, at least to look at Sjávarfoss waterfall and Þrándarstaðir waterfall. A little warm up before we visit the gem itself, Glymur.
Glymur hike is an adventurous hike through canyons, birch forest and lava fields. It is not a very easy walk, but it is worth it! On the way we go through Þvottahellir cave and task our balance when facing a pole over the river. The walk itself can take up to 4 hours depending on the speed and the route.
After enjoying Botnsdalur valley and Glymur it is optional to visit the farmers at Bjarteyjarsandur farm, only 10 minutes drive from the valley. There we experience Icelandic hospitality at it´s best (www.bjarteyjarsandur.is). After a short stop, we head back to Reykavík, driving the beautiful Hvalfjordur on the north side, through the tunnel and to your hotel.
