Þingvellir & South Coast Tour
A visit to a unique national park Thingvellir where two worlds meet. Continued with an unforgettable visit to the famous Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot spring.
We start our journey visiting Thingvellir – the first national park in Iceland. Thingvellir is a site of historical, cultural, and geological importance. It lies in a rift valley that marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. It is at the northern end of Þingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland. Thingvellir is situated on the northern shore of Thingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland. The river Öxará traverses the national park and forms a waterfall at the Almannagjá, called Öxarárfoss. On the lake’s northern shore the Silfra fissure is a popular diving and snorkelling tour location.
Gullfoss is a waterfall located in the canyon of Hvítá river in southwest Iceland, rushing southward and about a kilometer above the falls it turns sharply to the right and flows down into a wide curved three-step “staircase” – The Golden Falls.
From Gullfoss we head to Geysir area – the geyser which all other geysers in the world get their name. Geysir lies in the Haukadalur valley as well as Strokkur which spouts every five minutes or so.
Together these three; Thingvellir Gullfoss and the geysers of Haukadalur, will complete our Golden Circle and we head back to Reykavík.
